Sick of Being Sick? Try My Winter Morning Ritual!
Cold season is upon us, and I’ve already caught that nasty bug! 😷 It’s a reminder that it’s time to kickstart my preventative winter morning routine, and I wanted to share it with you so you don’t have to suffer like I am right now.
The Garlic Kickstart
I begin my mornings with a crushed clove of garlic on an empty stomach. I know what you’re thinking—🤢 garlic first thing? But trust me, there’s nothing scary about it! Here’s how to do it:
- Crush a clove of garlic and chop it into tiny pieces.
- Wait for 10 minutes. This step is crucial to activate allicin, the beneficial compound.
- Take the crushed garlic on a teaspoon and swallow it whole with water—no chewing necessary! I promise, this way you won’t have any garlic breath.
Why garlic? Allicin boosts our immune response to viruses that cause colds and flu. Studies have shown that it can reduce the risk of getting sick, shorten the duration of illness, and lessen the severity of symptoms. So, will you add this to your morning routine?
The Sweet Concoction
Next, I follow the garlic with a teaspoon of my little concoction (the “dessert” to my garlic main course):
Ingredients:
- Raw Honey 🍯: Known for its antimicrobial properties, honey can help fight off certain bacteria and soothe a sore throat.
- Black Seeds: Packed with antibacterial and antifungal properties, plus antioxidants.
- Turmeric: An anti-inflammatory powerhouse, turmeric gives your concoction a distinct yellow colour.
- Black Pepper: Enhances the absorption of turmeric.
- Fresh Grated Ginger: Another anti-inflammatory hero that may reduce sore throat risk.
A Warm Finish
I wrap up my morning routine with a cup of warm lemon water for a boost of vitamin C.
I’ve been doing this for a few years (usually after my first cold), and it really helps keep those pesky colds at bay. Just remember to stick with it regularly!
